Forward, Kazakhstan! Science Festival Highlights from Astana, Almaty and Ust-Kamenogorsk

From September 30 to October 2, ANO Energy of the Future hosted the Science Festival with support from Rosatom State Corporation. The festival brought together more than 1,200 school and university students from Astana, Almaty and Ust-Kamenogorsk—all eager to explore science and discover something new. After all, curiosity is valued just as highly as hospitality in Kazakhstan.

Participants explored nuclear technologies and learned about radiation safety and environmental protection measures in the energy sector. They conducted scientific experiments, built a model cooling tower and took part in a science show. One of the festival’s highlights was a screening of the film “Earth, I’m With You,” featuring Konstantin Ruder and Arina Danilova. After the screening, the two actors spoke about making the film and answered questions from the audience.

The young participants also met aerospace engineer Nikita Matasov; Seit Aliyev, head of the Information Center for Nuclear Technologies (ICAT) in Astana; Anna Ragozina, winner of the Icebreaker of Knowledge competition; Georgy Tikhomirov, a professor at the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI; Alexander Koldobsky, a Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences; Vladimir Knyshev, secretary of the Engineering School of Nuclear Technologies at Tomsk Polytechnic University; and Olga Petrova, a Candidate of Technical Sciences.

Karina Kartushina, project manager at the autonomous nonprofit organization Energy of the Future: “The Science Festival is an investment in the future: it doesn’t just teach young people about technology; it makes them feel part of a major scientific initiative. We see participants’ eyes light up as they build models with their own hands, hear stories of Arctic expeditions, conduct experiments and discuss the industry's future with experts. These are the moments that shape the next generation of researchers and engineers.”
