First International Youth Festival in Uganda

Kampala and Jinja, Uganda

Project challenges

Sustaining a positive perception of Russian nuclear technology in Africa and strengthening trust in Russian partners among young people, the educational community and regional civic groups required a clear, modern and culturally relevant form of communication. Since young people make up the majority of the population in African countries, they are the primary audience for long-term dialogue about peaceful nuclear technology, education and technological development.

Key project challenges:

  • engaging young people from different African countries, both intellectually and emotionally, in discussions about science, technology and international cooperation;

  • turning a complex technology agenda into an accessible and engaging format for young participants with different levels of knowledge;

  • adapting the business and cultural programme to the local linguistic and cultural context while retaining a focus on the benefits of peaceful nuclear technology and the role of Russian technology;

  • bringing together a broad audience, young leaders, experts and speakers in a single event combining education, communication and culture;

  • delivering a complex international event while maintaining high standards of organisation and content delivery.

Implementation

  • We developed the festival concept, programme and unified visual identity.

  • We developed an event programme and creative concept that connected the business and cultural elements.

  • We delivered outdoor advertising and communications support for the festival.

    We brought together speakers, experts and influencers from Russia and Africa.

  • The festival combined a business programme at a university in Kampala with a concert programme in Jinja, bringing together substantive discussion and an emotionally engaging cultural format.

Results

  • the international youth festival brought together young participants from Africa and Russia and provided a platform for exchanging views, knowledge and experience;

  • more than 4,000 people attended the business programme;

  • more than 10,000 people took part in the festival day.

The international youth festival brought together participants from Africa and Russia and created a platform for exchanging views, knowledge and experience.

The festival’s business programme attracted more than 4,000 participants.

More than 10,000 people attended the open festival day.

We created a replicable international youth festival model that we can roll out in other countries where the organisation operates and integrate into long-term humanitarian and technological cooperation programmes.
